The International Laboratory of Hamamatusu Photonics

The International Laboratory of Hamamatsu Photonics was jointly established by Hamamatsu Photonics K.K. of Japan and Department of Optical Engineering of Zhejiang University in 1995. It is based on State Key Laboratory of Modern Optical Instrumentation of Zhejiang University and Hamamatsu Photonics K.K. of Japan. The laboratory focuses on research such as the photonic control, photonic detection and bio-x imaging. The main research areas include the basic characteristics, morphology and generation mechanism of the ultra-weak photon from biological systems; the bio-optical phenomena of ultra-short time; high-resolution detection technology and fast electronic circuit of Positron Emission Tomography(PET); forward and inverse problem of near infrared optical tomography; image reconstruction, image segmentation, image registration and motion analysis of image sequence of medical image; inverse problem of EEG and MEG; analysis of brain functional imaging; early detection of heart disease and resting state of nervous system and brain research and so on .

Major Research Direction
1.Photobiology imaging basis research
2.Theory and method of image reconstruction
3.Biological medicine image analysis

Academic Exchange and Talent Training
The laboratory not only works actively on international cooperation and exchange with relevant research agencies, such as American Yale University, American Rochester University, Hamamatsu Photonics K.K. (JAPAN) and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, etc, but also recommends annually two doctor candidates of Zhejiang University’s to study for one year in Hamamatsu Photonics K.K. (JAPAN). In addition, the laboratory covers 2 doctor programs and 2 master programs of Optical Engineering, Metrology and Measurement Technology and Instruments, relies on post-doctoral research station and aims to train talents on optical engineering.
