主讲人:Mario Affatigato
时间:2019年5月14日下午3:00――4:00
地点:西溪校区西七343会议室
主要内容:
This presentation will discuss the International Journal of Applied Glass Science and its development over the last few years. We will focus on what it takes for the work of authors to get cited and to impact the worldwide scientific literature on glass. Prof. Affatigato will provide context by addressing the types of issues articles sometimes run into, and by suggesting ideas to increase impacts and recognition for the authors. The remaining portion of the presentation will discuss the some of the scientific projects on glass research ongoing in Prof. Affatigato’s lab at Coe College. It will primarily focus on one selected project, namely, glass manufacturing and characterization by aerolevitation. The aerolevitation project gives new insight into the crystallization and property behavior of glasses and melts at very high temperatures (from 2000°C to 3000 °C). Afterwards, Prof. Affatigato will be happy to answer questions on this work, as well as other projects.
The highlighted work has been supported, over the years, by grants from the Coe College and, primarily, by the U.S. National Science Foundation through its Ceramics, RUI, MRI, REU,and International programs.
主讲人简介:
Prof. Mario Affatigato obtained his undergraduate degree from Coe College in 1989, followed by his Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University in 1995. He has developed a research effort primarily investigating the relationship between the optical properties and structure of glassy materials. He has worked with over 90 undergraduates in projects that include laser-induced modification and exotic manufacturing methods like aerolevitation. His research primarily deals with oxide glasses, especially vanadates, borates, and samples with heavy metals. Prof. Affatigato is a past recipient of the APS Prize for Research at an Undergraduate Institution, a PECASE award from the National Science Foundation (NSF), as well as other research grants from NSF and the
Research Corporation in support of his work. He is a fellow of the American Ceramic Society and the UK Society of Glass Technology, and in 2015 became a Research Corporation Cottrell Scholar.Currently he holds the Fran Allison and Francis Halpin Professorship at Coe College, and is the Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Applied Glass Science (Wiley).
