Abstract
Manipulation of light at the nanoscale has enabled numerous technological advances in biomedical sensing, optical communications, quantum optics, as well as fundamental studies of strong light and matter interactions. In this talk, Dr. Quan will focus on how biomedical sensing benefits from the high-Q and small footprint photonic crystal and surface plasmon resonators. In particular, He will present two examples: one is a silicon photonic crystal chip for high-sensitivity, high-throughput label-free protein detection and the other is the plasmonic fiber tip probe for intracellular protein detection.

Bio:
Qimin Quan is Principle Investigator, Rowland Junior Fellow, at Rowland Institute at Harvard University. Dr Quan’s research interests include the study of strong light-matter interaction at nanoscale, and the design and fabrication of functional nano-devices. The Quan’s lab is also pursuing interdisciplinary applications of nanophotonics and new materials to biomedical science. Qimin Quan received PhD (2012) at Harvard University, and BS (2007) at Peking University.
