From October 29th to 30th, 2022, the first International Postgraduate Photonics Forum, which is part of the 70th anniversary celebration activities of the College of Optical Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University, was successfully held in the Shaw Museum of Science in Yuquan Campus. According to the requirements of epidemic prevention and control, the forum will be held both online and offline. This forum was initiated by the College of Optical Science and Engineering aiming to enhance the academic thinking of postgraduates, expand their international horizons, and improve their innovation capabilities. It attracted more than 5,000 domestic and foreign scholars and students to attend the forum.

Professor Dai Daoxin, Dean of the College of Optical Science and Engineering, first delivered an opening speech. He expressed his warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to the guests, emphasizing that the school has always adhered to the focus on student growth and focused on the international training of graduate students. Coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the college, the holding of the International Postgraduate Photonics Forum will provide a platform of exchanges and mutual learning for graduate students in the field of optics.

At the opening ceremony, Professor Mengjie Yu, the Promotion Ambassador of the Optical Society of America and the University of Southern California, delivered a speech and wished the forum a smooth holding.

The forum is divided into 3 venues, focusing on subjects such as nanophotonics, plasmonics and metamaterials, advanced optical materials and fabrication, optics in health care and biophotonics, advanced optical imaging and optoelectronic detection, optical communication and integrated devices.

Five well-known scholars in related fields, including Professor Wim Bogaerts from Ghent University in Belgium, Associate Professor Ling Yuye from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Professor Liu Haitao from Nankai University, Associate Professor Yi Wensuo from Changchun University of Science and Technology, and Professor Qiu Jianrong from Zhejiang University, gave keynote speeches for each subject. More than 100 postgraduates from nearly 20 domestic and foreign universities gave wonderful oral presentations, with lively discussions and atmosphere.

At the closing ceremony on the afternoon of October 30, Mr. Liu Zhiyi, Assistant Dean of the College of Optical Science and Engineering, announced the winners of the best papers and outstanding papers of the forum, and announced the successful conclusion of the first International Postgraduate Photonics Forum.

The first International Postgraduate Photonics Forum was hosted by the School of Optoelectronics Science and Engineering from Zhejiang University and co-organized by the School of Optics and Photonics from Beijing Institute of Technology, School of Opto-Electronic Engineering from Changchun University of Science and Technology, School of Physics from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, College of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering from Nankai University, School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and School of Precision Instrument and Opto-Electronics Engineering from Tianjin University and organized by the Optica/IEEE/SPIE student chapters of each school.
