2020 West-Lake Photonics Symposium was successfully held

2020 West-Lake Photonics Symposium was held on November 28, 2020 at ZJU’s International Campus in Haining. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Dai Daoxin, Vice Dean of the College of Optical Science and Engineering, and Professor Liu Xu, Secretary-General of the Chinese Optical Society, delivered an opening speech.

Affected by the epidemic, this conference was carried out in a combined online and offline manner. A total of 10 top scholars from the field of optoelectronics were invited to give a report on quantum optics, metasurfaces and metamaterials, computational spectroscopy and super-resolution imaging, two-dimensional material, silicon-based optoelectronic devices. The conference attracted more than four thousand teachers and students to listen online.  

As a special guest, Academician Zhu Shiyao of Zhejiang University gave an academic report entitled "Superconducting qubits: new platform for quantum optics", which introduced in detail the latest developments in the field of superconducting quantum at home and abroad and studied its future development trends.

Later, Professor Xia Fengnian from Yale University gave an online academic report titled "Strong mid-infrared photoresponse in small-twist-angle bilayer graphene", introducing his team’s recent progress in double-layer graphene superimposed corners, showing Its wonderful characteristics and its mid-infrared band application.

Professor Zhou Lei of Fudan University brought an academic report entitled "Metasurfaces for controlling light", reviewed the development history and latest progress of metasurface research, and demonstrated the fascinating physical effects and application prospects of metasurfaces.

Professor Aydogan Ozcan from the University of California, Los Angeles gave an online report entitled "Deep Learning-enabled Computational Microscopy and Sensing", expounding the computational microscopy and sensing technology based on deep learning, pointing out that deep learning will be fundamentally comprehensive Change the field of optical microscopy and image reconstruction.

With the theme of "Metal halide perovskite optoelectronics", the report of Academician Huang Wei of Northwestern Polytechnical University focused on the research of metal halide perovskite optoelectronics and devices, and explained its excellent luminescence characteristics and physical mechanism.

Subsequently, Professor Xiong Qihua from Tsinghua University gave a report on "Harness strong light-matter interactions in halide perovskite semiconductors towards photonics and polaritonics", showing how to use the strong light-matter interactions in halide perovskite semiconductors to suppress photons in materials And Jizi and other novel ideas and methods.

In his report entitled "Engineering the topological properties of metamaterials", Professor Zhang Shuang from the University of Hong Kong focused on the research progress of topological structure and metamaterials, and discussed the application prospects of Weyl metamaterials.

Professor Qu Junle from Shenzhen University gave a report titled "Stimulated Emission Depletion Microscopy with Lower Laser Power" and detailed the advanced high-speed super-resolution imaging technology of stimulated emission depletion (STED) microscope.

In his report entitled "Optical superresolution microscopy of molecular mechanisms of disease", Clements of the University of Cambridge detailed the principle of a high-resolution imaging technology-frequency shift imaging, and demonstrated the use of deep learning to enhance microscopic imaging.

Finally, Professor Dai Daozin of Zhejiang University gave a report entitled "Silicon photonic devices", expounding the thoughts and latest developments of light field control on silicon substrates, especially the on-chip polarization control, multi-mode control, and spectral control developed by his team. After the meeting, the participants had a lively discussion on intelligent perception and imaging, micro-nano photonics and other related fields.
