In September 2020, the first domestic Oceanic High-Spectral-resolution Lidar developed by the team of Professor Liu Dong and Professor Liu Chong of Zhejiang University and Ningbo Research Institute, along with the independently developed oceanic elastic lidar, conducted sea trials in the East China Sea and South China Sea.

Oceanic Lidar is an active remote sensing device that can detect the optical parameters of seawater within a range of tens of meters below the sea surface during the day and night. Its wide detection area can cover even the polar regions. These advantages make oceanic Lidar gradually become an important part of ocean stereoscopic observation network.

Lidar research by Professor Liu Dong and Professor Liu Chong’s team features High-Spectral-resolution Lidar (HSRL), with a Field-widened Michelson Interferometer (FWMI) as core technology, and focuses on atmospheric and oceanic remote sensing to solve environment, climate and meteorology problems.
