close-book exam
Course objectives and basic requirements:
The course is designed for the graduate students to understand the basic theories, concepts of Electro-Magnetic Theory in Optical Field, and to solve the practical problem in modern optics.
The students should:
- Understand the fundamental theory of electro-magnetic field, study the basic method to solve the Maxwell's equation in different media with the different boundary conditions,
- study to solve and analyze the fundamental problem in Optical Field using Electro-Magnetic theory.
- study to solve and analyze the phenomena appearing in modern optics and the application problem using Electro-Magnetic theory.
Course introduction:
Fundamental theory of electro-magnetic field, Maxwell's equation and its solution in the different media with the different boundary conditions, Optical wave propagation in the homogeneous medium, single and multilayer dielectric films, metals and attenuate media, metallic wave guide, dielectric waveguide, step and graded fiber, graded medium, crystals and optical anisotropic media, and there applications in modern optics.
