Course objectives and basic requirements:

The course is designed for the graduate students to understand the basic theories, concepts of laser techniques, which have been developed in recent years. After the course, the students are expected to have a general idea on the recent development of various laser technique and the capability on design and optimum of laser systems.
During the course, the students should:
1.Learn some fundmental knowledge about laser materials.
2.Learn several basic laser techniques such as laser amplication, frequency slection and conversion, and so on.
3.Understand the principles of some recently-developed laser techniques such as various fiber lasers, coherent emerging, and so on..
4.Through discussion and presentation, have a deeper understanding on the laser physics.
5.Have a general idea on the design and optimum of the laser system

Course introduction:

Based on the latest developments and trends of laser techniques, the course provides a detailed discussion on various laser techniques, especially on the solid-state laser techniques. As an emphasis, the course will discuss in detail about several basic laser teniques and methods such as laser amplicaton, mode locking, frequency slection, frequecy conversioin, and so on. The course will aso introcue some intersting topics in current laser resarch such as the fiber lasers and coherent merging as well as the applications of lasers in bio-medical, industrial fabrication, and natioanl security. .
