The first “Belt and Road & BRIC” International Advanced Photonics Forum was successfully held

Dec27

On December 12, 2019, the first “Belt andRoad & BRIC” international advanced photonics forum was successfully heldin Qiushi lecture hall of Yuanzheng Hotel, Haining Campus, Zhejiang University.More than 10 experts and scholars from Russia, Brazil, India, Pakistan,Singapore and China and some 30 young teachers and students from ZhejiangUniversity's College of Optical Science and Engineering gathered together todiscuss advanced photonics development. The forum was sponsored by the Collegeof Optical Science and Engineering of Zhejiang University and co-organized bythe Joint Laboratory for International Cooperation in Photonics and Technologyof the Ministry of Education and the International Joint Research Center forOptoelectronics Technology of the Ministry of Science and Technology. The forumaims to promote countries in the “Belt and Road & BRICs” to consolidateconsensus in the field of advanced photonics and continuously deepen exchangesand cooperation in scientific research and talent training.

The forum wasopened in a warm speech by Professor Ding Guanzhong, Deputy Dean of theInternational Union College of Zhejiang University. Professor Ma Yungui, DeputyDirector of the Joint Laboratory for International Cooperation in Photonics andTechnology of the Ministry of Education held the opening ceremony of the forum.Professor Ding Guanzhong extended a warm welcome to the guests who came to theHaining Campus, comprehensively introduced the basic situation of ZhejiangUniversity and the International Joint College of the Haining Campus, expressedgood expectations for the forum, and wished the meeting a complete success.Subsequently, Professor Dai Daoxin, the Deputy Dean of the College of OpticalScience and Engineering of Zhejiang University, as the chairman of the forum, further elaborated the original intention and purpose of the forum andintroduced the relevant situation of the College of Optical Science andEngineering to the guests in detail. He emphasized the difference between thisforum and the traditional academic forum, and hoped that everyone would worktogether to build a cooperation and exchange platform for the “Belt and Road& BRICS” countries in the field of advanced photonics and promote deepinternational research and education cooperation.

Then, hostedby Professor Ma Yungui, Ma Yaoguang, Dai Daoxin, Liu Dong, etc., speciallyinvited guests actively shared and introduced the overall situation and latestresearch progress of advanced photonics in their country or unit according tothe schedule. Professor Hugo Enrique of Campinas University of Brazil, the vicePresident of Brazilian Institute of Optics and Optoelectronics , introduced theresearch status of the university in the fields of integrated optics andmicro-nano sensing and the latest research progress in optical antennas.Professor Mushtaq Ahmed, the former director of Pakistan National LaserInstitute, introduced the national optical disciplines in Pakistan and histeam's research progress in bio-optical sensing.Professor Anqi Qiu,Director of the Biomedical Engineering and Clinical Imaging Research Center ofthe National University of Singapore, introduced his team's research on opticsapplied to brain science and clinical imaging. Professor Igor Veselovskiy ofthe Russian Institute of Physics introduced his research on high energy pulsedlaser manufacturing and application situation, Professor Amol Choudhary ofDelhi Institute of Technology introduced the research situation of hisinstitute in the field of integration and micro-nano optics. Other foreignexperts and scholars and young professors Liu Dong, Ma Yungui, Shi Yaocheng,Yang Qing, Di Dawei, and Si Ke from Zhejiang University's College of OpticalScience and Engineering gave special reports on the research of theirrespective teams. Participants expressed their opinions and reached a consensuson a number of research topics.

At last,Professor Dai Daoxin made a concluding speech, thanking the guests for theiractive participation and the organizing committee and volunteers for their hardwork, affirming the exchange results achieved in this forum. He was lookingforward all parties take this as an opportunity to deepen cooperation inadvanced photonics scientific research and talent training, and work togetherto create a better future.
