Recently, the International Society for Optics and Photonics(SPIE) has officially announced the list of the SPIE Fellow of 2019. Prof. LIUXu from college of Optical Science and Engineering (COSE) of ZhejiangUniversity (ZJU), became a member of SPIE Fellow.
The International Society for Optics and Photonics(SPIE),founded in 1955, is a world-class academic society dedicated to the exchange,collection, dissemination and application of knowledge in the fields of optics,photonics, optoelectronics, imaging and image processing. SPIE Fellow is thehighest academic honor of SPIE. All SPIE fellows are members who have madegreat achievements in optics, photonics, imaging technology or otherdisciplines and those who made outstanding contributions to the field ofoptical engineering, especially to the SPIE. The title of "SPIEFellow" symbolizes the affirmation and recognition of SPIE for the owner’sgreat achievements in the field of optics. From 1955 to now, more than 1400SPIE members have been elected as SPIE Fellow.
Prof. LIU Xu is enrolled for his achievements in thedevelopment of the first liquid crystal light vale, the large screen full colorprojection display in China and the new optical engine for the liquid crystalon silicon projector, which has been highly recognized by worldwide opticalengineering field and is of great significance for enhancing the internationalinfluence of optical engineering discipline of ZJU.
Prof. LIU Xu obtained his Bachelor’s degree in the major of opticalinstruments in Zhejiang University and received his science Ph.D. degree inFrance. He is Yangtze River Scholars Distinguished Professor. Besides, he isthe director of the State Key Laboratory of Modern Optical Instrumentation, theSecretary General of Chinese Optical Society, the chief scientist of theNational 973 Project. What’s more, he isalso awarded as National Outstanding teacher.
