At 9:00 am on September 14th, 2018, the postgraduateopening ceremony of College of Optical Science and Engineering (COSE) was heldin Room 301, Teaching Building 3, Yuquan Campus. Before theopening ceremony, leaders of the college and the representatives of all gradesheld a welcoming party for the 2018 postgraduate freshmen. In front of TeachingBuilding 3, under the atmosphere of youth, they entered the teaching buildingand shook hands with the college leaders under the applause of their seniors.
The opening ceremony was presided over by ZHANG Mengyue,the president of the Postgraduate Student Union of COSE. LIU Xiangdong,dean of COSE, CHEN Jiong, party secretary, ZHENG Zhenrong, vice dean, ZHNEG Danwen, deputy secretary of the party committee, moral education tutors andcounselors of all institutes, as well as the 2018 postgraduate students of COSEattended the opening ceremony.
LIU Xiangdong gave a welcomespeech. From the long history of COSE, he talked about the hardships inthe past sixty-six years during which talents of Zhejiang University (ZJU) have produced a large number of achievements and made outstandingcontributions to the development and progress of China's optical industry andnational defense. While reviewing the history, he also encouraged 2018postgraduate freshmen to be ambitious and diligent, care for the world andcultivate self-confidence; seek truth and pursue innovation, always pursueexcellence; be of virtue, and abide by academic ethics. Liu hopes that thestudents can uphold the school motto: "seek truth and pursue innovation",inherit the fine tradition of promoting innovation and hard work, and strive tobe talents with both ability and responsibility.
Next, QIU Jianrong delivered a speech as arepresentative of supervisors. He said that this is an era full ofopportunities but also full of impetuousness. He hopes that after experiencingsetbacks and hesitations, students can open their wings, meet the challenge andfinally grow into talents for society and the country.
In the speech of the representatives ofseniors and freshmen, the senior representative LI Dongyu combined his ownpractical experience, and hoped that postgraduate students could read morepapers, do research meditatively, be a good student, and live a good life. Thefreshman representative, SONG Jionghui, said that he will shoulder the mission forZJU, down-to-earth and high-spirited.
Subsequently, the Vice-Chairman of theStudent Union, YANG Yifan, led all students to solemnly swear for integrity ofacademic. The atmosphere of the whole eventfully reflecting the students'commitment to the responsibility of life and the determination of behavior.
ZHENG Zhenrong gave a special report onpostgraduate training to the students. He reminded students to grasp theopportunity of the postgraduate stage. Focusing on the training programs,teaching concepts, international exchange activities and academic standards, heproceeded from the history of COSE, and made a comprehensive analysis andintroduction of the concept and achievements of the college's talent training.
WU Bo gave a laboratory safety lecture toremind students to standardize the experimental operation and pay attention tothe safety.
At last, the postgraduate opening ceremonyof COSE ended in the warm applause of the students. Hope that the 2018graduate students will be able to uphold the school motto and make greaterprogress.
