Prof. Min Qiu has recently been elected a Fellow of the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE) for his significant contributions in “Nanophotonic devices based on photonic crystals, plasmonics and metamaterial”.
Each year, SPIE promotes members as new Fellows of the Society. SPIE fellows are members of distinction who have made significant scientific and technical contributions in the multidisciplinary fields of optics, photonics, and imaging. They are honored for their technical achievement, for their service to the general optics community, and to SPIE in particular. More than 1,000 SPIE members have become Fellows since the Society's inception in 1955.
Prof. Min Qiu received the B.Sc. degree from the Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, in 1995. He obtained the Ph.D. degree in Condense Matter Physics from the same university in 1999. He received the second Ph.D. degree in Electromagnetic Theory from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, Sweden, in 2001. In 2001 he joined the School of Information and Communication Technology, KTH, as an assistant professor. He became an associate professor in 2005, and a full professor (Professor of Photonics) in 2009. He is now a distinguished professor at the Department of Optical Engineering, Zhejiang University. He was the recipient of the Individual Grants for the Future Research Leaders (FFL II) from the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF) in 2004. Prof. Qiu is an author or co-author of more than 150 international refereed journal papers, and more than 150 conference contributions, including many invited talks in many international conferences. He has an h-index of 36 up to Nov 2013. His research interests is mostly on nanophotonics, including transformation optics, optical metamaterials, photonic crystals, plasmonic optics, and integrated optical circuits.
