Speaker introduction:
Qiying Chen Received the B.S. degree in Applied Physics from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1989, he furthered his studies at Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, where he obtained the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in 1992 and 1996, respectively. From 2000 to 2002, he was a docent of Engineering Department in University of Kyoto and a research fellow of Combined Industrial Technology Institute in the college of Industrial Technology. During 2002 to 2004, he was appointed as an associated research fellow in Institute of Integrated Industrial Technology in Canada Nation Academe. He is now an associated professor in the Department of Physics & Physical Oceanography, and cross-appointed by the Faculty of Engineering & Applied Science in Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada, where he set up Ultrafast Nanophotonics lab and Laser Application lab. He received the ‘CDHC-OPTICS Excellent Award’ and ‘CDHC-OPTICS Special Award’ from Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1992 and 1995, respectively. He received the ‘Special Award of President Scholarship’ of Chinese Academy of Science in 1996. In 1998 and 2000, he got the Japanese STA and NEDO Fellowships. He was appointed The Research Chair in Photonics by Government of Canada in 2004 for his excellent work in photonics.
